Central forces to stay for seven more days after Bengal polls, even if BJP comes to power, says Amit Shahv

Divya Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that Central armed forces would remain deployed in West Bengal for at least seven days after the Assembly elections, even if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power. Addressing a gathering in Behala after leading a roadshow, he urged voters to cast their ballots without fear, assuring them of strong security arrangements by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Go and vote on the 29th without worrying about the goons. The Election Commission has made extensive security arrangements,” Mr. Shah said, expressing confidence in a BJP victory in the State. The roadshow, held on the final day of campaigning, drew large crowds in support of BJP candidates in Behala Purba and Behala Paschim constituencies, turning parts of south Kolkata saffron. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Barrackpore, invoking the historical significance of the region in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He said the “mood of Bengal” indicated a political shift and expressed hope of attending the swearing-in ceremony of a BJP government. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee campaigned in Bhabanipur, raising concerns over voter roll deletions and criticising the poll administration. Campaigning for the second phase ended at 6 p.m.
