Around 35% of schools in Delhi do not meet mandatory fire safety norms, according to data from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) as of

January 1, 2026. Of the total institutions assessed, only 3,572 private and government-aided schools have obtained the required fire No Objection Certificate (NOC), while 1,928 schools have either failed inspections or not applied for certification.Officials said the NOC confirms compliance with minimum fire prevention and safety standards under the National Building Code of India, 2016.
