Vijay Targets DMK, EPS Ahead of Bypolls, Alleges Behind-the-Scenes Deal

DIVYA DELHI : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has alleged a tacit understanding between the ruling DMK and the AIADMK ahead of the October 6 bypolls in Tamil Nadu. Campaigning for TVK candidate P Sathyabama in Dharapuram, Vijay claimed that the two parties had reached an arrangement under which the DMK would contest Madurantakam while the AIADMK would retain Dharapuram. Vijay also questioned the absence of senior DMK leader and former minister Senthil Balaji from the Dharapuram campaign, citing the constituency’s political significance. He reiterated his earlier claim that the DMK and AIADMK had explored the possibility of coming together to form a government after the 2026 Assembly election. The DMK has rejected Vijay’s allegations, with party spokesperson TKS Elangovan dismissing the claim of a secret understanding. AIADMK general secretary E Palaniswami has also denied any attempt to form a government with the DMK. The bypolls are being closely watched after the two constituencies fell vacant when their former AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the TVK. Both former MLAs are now contesting the bypolls as TVK candidates.
