Vijay Consoles Sathyabama as TVK Candidate Breaks Down Over Alleged Abuse

DIVYA DELHI : TVK candidate P. Sathyabama became emotional during an election campaign in Dharapuram after alleging that she had been subjected to obscene and abusive remarks following her exit from the AIADMK. The incident took place ahead of the October 6 bypoll in the constituency. While addressing supporters, Sathyabama alleged that people had used offensive language against her and made personal remarks without considering that she was a woman. She became tearful while speaking about the alleged comments. TVK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who was present on the stage, stepped forward and consoled Sathyabama as she wiped her eyes. Sathyabama had resigned as an AIADMK MLA and subsequently joined Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). She is contesting the Dharapuram bypoll as the TVK candidate. Vijay defended her decision to leave the AIADMK and rejected allegations of horse-trading. The Dharapuram and Madurantakam bypolls are scheduled for October 6, with counting of votes set for October 9.
