DIVYA DELHI : A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area has claimed the lives of at least six people, while several others are feared to be trapped under the debris. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when a multi-storey building being used as a paying guest accommodation for students suddenly collapsed near Delhi University’s South Campus. The building reportedly collapsed at around 1:30 pm while repair and renovation work was underway, including work in the basement. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, NDRF and other emergency agencies immediately rushed to the spot and launched a massive search-and-rescue operation. Several people have been pulled from the rubble and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Rescue personnel have been using heavy equipment and specialised search teams to locate anyone who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Preliminary reports suggest that the ageing building may have been weakened by ongoing construction work and water accumulation in the basement. Authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident, while questions are being raised over building safety and regulatory checks in the densely populated student area. The rescue operation remains ongoing as authorities work to locate survivors and determine the exact cause of the collapse.
