Rahul Gandhi renews ‘vote theft’ attack on BJP

Divya Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday renewed his sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that “vote theft” and electoral manipulation have enabled the party to secure not just individual seats but, at times, entire governments. In a post on social media, the Congress leader claimed that electoral malpractices were increasingly being used to influence outcomes. “Seats are sometimes stolen through vote theft, sometimes entire governments,” he said, reiterating concerns over the integrity of the electoral process. Gandhi specifically referred to the political situation in Haryana, where the BJP returned to power in 2024 despite strong expectations of a Congress victory. He described the government as one formed through questionable means and alleged manipulation. Although he did not directly mention recent elections in his latest remarks, Gandhi had earlier pointed to polls in West Bengal and Assam as examples where, according to him, electoral processes were compromised. Opposition parties in these states have also raised concerns about alleged irregularities. The BJP has consistently rejected such allegations, maintaining that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner under the supervision of the Election Commission. The latest remarks signal an escalation in political rhetoric, with the Congress continuing to question the credibility of electoral outcomes, while the ruling party dismisses the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
