Raghav Chadha Updates: MP Says Raised Public Issues, Day After Rajya Sabha Demotion

A day after being removed as deputy leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha, party MP Raghav Chadha said he has been “silenced, not defeated,” asserting that his interventions in Parliament focused solely on public issues. Chadha was replaced by Ashok Mittal, with party leaders describing the move as a routine organisational change and confirming that a formal communication had been sent to the Rajya Sabha secretariat. In a video shared on social media, Chadha highlighted key issues he had raised in the Upper House, including the tax burden on the middle class, data expiry concerns, the need for paternity leave rights, working conditions of gig workers, and high airport baggage charges. He maintained that despite being restricted from speaking, his focus remains on public welfare. Senior party leaders denied claims that Chadha was prevented from speaking in Parliament. Mittal downplayed the development, noting that leadership roles in the Rajya Sabha have changed previously, citing that N. D. Gupta had earlier held the position before Chadha. Once considered a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal, Chadha’s recent absence from key party events and silence on major developments had sparked speculation about internal differences. He is the second AAP Rajya Sabha MP after Swati Maliwal to face such a situation.
