Delhi Plans Fully Online Property Registration Within Six Months

Divya Delhi The Delhi government is planning to introduce a fully online and paperless property registration system, which could be implemented within the next five to six months, according to senior officials.Under the proposed system, buyers and sellers will only need to visit the sub-registrar’s office for biometric and photo verification. All other steps, including application filing, document submission, and ownership verification, will be completed online. Final documents will be delivered digitally through the DigiLocker app.“The plan is currently on the drawing board, and meetings are underway,” a senior government official said. The initiative aims to minimise human intervention and reduce the need for multiple visits to government offices.Officials believe the move will enhance transparency and significantly curb fraud in property transactions by creating a secure and digitally traceable system. The government is also expected to onboard a top-tier software firm to develop and implement the platform.Efforts to digitise property registration in Delhi have been ongoing for several years but faced delays due to administrative and electoral factors. While the existing Delhi Online Registration Information System (DORIS) allows online document submission, e-stamping, and appointment booking, much of the process still remains manual. The proposed overhaul seeks to streamline the system, reduce paperwork, and improve efficiency and accountability in property registrations across the capital.
