Arvind Kejriwal Boycotts Hearing In Liquor Policy Case Before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, Invokes ‘Gandhian Satyagraha’

Divya Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has announced that he will boycott further proceedings in the liquor policy case being heard by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court. In a letter addressed to the judge, Kejriwal cited a loss of confidence in the fairness of the proceedings and invoked principles of Gandhian satyagraha. Kejriwal stated that his decision was taken with “complete respect for the judiciary” but emphasised that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done. He acknowledged that his move could harm his legal interests but said he was prepared to face the consequences. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy and is being pursued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has challenged a trial court order discharging Kejriwal and other accused, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Earlier, Kejriwal had sought the judge’s recusal, alleging potential bias and raising concerns about a perceived conflict of interest linked to the professional engagements of her family members. The court, however, rejected the plea. In his letter, Kejriwal said the language of the recusal order indicated that his concerns were viewed as a personal attack, making it difficult for him to expect an impartial hearing. The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal and political battle surrounding the case.
