Imran Khan Faces ‘Leave India’ Notice; Top Lawyer’s Comment Fuels Debate

DIVYA DELHI : Bollywood actor Imran Khan has found himself at the centre of a controversy after receiving a notice directing him to leave India by October 28. The notice, issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), Mumbai, reportedly alleges violations of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The development has triggered a wider debate over immigration rules and the participation of foreign nationals in political demonstrations. The controversy follows Khan’s participation in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan, an American citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, was briefly detained during the demonstration. The reported remark by a top lawyer, suggesting that the protest should be held in the United States, has added another dimension to the debate. The issue has raised questions about the rights of OCI cardholders, legal restrictions on political participation and the scope of administrative powers. Khan’s legal team is preparing to challenge the notice before the Bombay High Court, arguing that the action is legally unjustified. The case is expected to draw further attention as the legal proceedings unfold.
