DIVYA DELHI : US President Donald Trump has welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington with a rare personal reception, as the two leaders prepare for talks covering trade, technology, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, Iran and critical minerals. The high-profile welcome came as Washington and Beijing agreed to extend their existing trade truce until January, easing immediate concerns over a return to higher tariffs. Trump is expected to seek further progress on trade commitments, including reciprocal tariff reductions and greater access for US agricultural and industrial exports to the Chinese market. Rare-earth supplies are another major issue on the US agenda. Washington has been pressing Beijing for more reliable access to critical minerals that are important for technology and manufacturing. Artificial intelligence and technology restrictions are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions.The leaders are also expected to address Taiwan and China’s relationship with Iran. While the summit has produced an extension of the trade truce, analysts cited by AP say expectations for a broader breakthrough remain limited, with both sides still facing significant differences.
