DIVYA DELHI : India continued its strong medal-winning campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, with Mirabai Chanu securing a silver medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event. Chanu lifted a combined 198kg, recording her first-ever Asian Games medal after a long wait. The medal was a significant achievement for the Indian weightlifter, who had previously competed at the Asian Games without finishing on the podium. Her silver also ended India’s long wait for a medal in Asian Games weightlifting. India’s medal tally received further boosts from the shooting and soft tennis contingents. The men’s and women’s skeet teams won bronze medals, while Jay Meena added another bronze in men’s singles soft tennis. The Indian men’s badminton team also advanced to the semifinals after defeating Japan 3-0, assuring itself of at least a bronze medal.With athletes delivering across multiple disciplines, India continued to build its medal tally on September 23 as the Asian Games progressed in Japan.
