Divya Delhi:
Narendra Modi on Sunday intensified his election campaign in West Bengal, unveiling a series of women-focused welfare promises while targeting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the issue of women’s reservation. Addressing a rally in Bankura, Modi said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in the state, women would receive free healthcare coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. He added that patients requiring dialysis, including those with kidney disease, would be treated free of cost at government hospitals. The Prime Minister also announced direct financial benefits, including ₹36,000 annually for women, ₹21,000 support for pregnant women, and additional funds for childcare and daughters’ education. He further highlighted expanded access to loans under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, stating women could receive up to ₹20 lakh for self-employment. Sharpening his political attack, Modi accused the TMC and Congress of opposing the 33% women’s reservation and attempting to block its passage in Parliament. He claimed that his government ensured the passage of the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023, while alleging opposition parties “betrayed” women. He also criticized the state government’s governance and welfare delivery, asserting that women in Bengal were not receiving benefits comparable to BJP-ruled states. Modi said growing public turnout at rallies reflected both support for the BJP and anger against the ruling administration.
