Lenskart under fire for ‘hijab allowed, bindi banned’ rule; Peyush Bansal reacts

Lenskart has come under scrutiny after a purported internal “Staff Uniform and Grooming Guide” sparked controversy online over alleged religious discrimination. The document suggested that employees were permitted to wear a black hijab and black turban during work hours but prohibited bindis, tilak, and other religious markings. The guidelines triggered widespread criticism on social media, with many users accusing the company of bias and questioning its inclusivity policies. The issue quickly gained traction, prompting a response from Peyush Bansal, who addressed the allegations publicly. Bansal dismissed the circulating document as an outdated version that does not reflect the company’s current policies. He clarified that Lenskart does not endorse any discriminatory practices and emphasized that the brand remains committed to inclusivity and respect for all cultures and religions. He also apologized for the confusion caused by the document’s circulation. The document being shared is not in line with our current guidelines,” Bansal stated, adding that the company is reviewing internal processes to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future. Despite the clarification, the incident has reignited conversations around workplace dress codes and religious expression in corporate India, with many calling for greater transparency and sensitivity in organizational policies.
