KATHMANDU, Apr 1 — A mild earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale struck the remote Mugu district in western Nepal early Wednesday morning, officials confirmed. The tremor occurred at 2:22 am, with its epicentre located in Dhainakot, a mountainous area within Mugu District.According to the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the quake was of low intensity and did not pose a significant threat to life or property. Authorities reported no immediate damage to infrastructure or casualties following the seismic event.Residents in nearby areas experienced light shaking, but the impact remained minimal due to the earthquake’s relatively low magnitude. Nepal, situated in a seismically active zone along the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, frequently experiences such minor tremors.Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, although no aftershocks have been reported so far. Local authorities have advised residents to remain alert and follow basic safety precautions, especially in hilly and remote regions where access to emergency services may be limited.
While this tremor caused no harm, earthquakes remain a constant concern in Nepal, which is still recovering from past seismic disasters. Authorities emphasize preparedness and awareness to minimize risks associated with future quakes.
