DIVYA DELHI : Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit India after a gap of nearly seven years to attend the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, with a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected on the first day of the summit on September 12. Xi’s visit is being closely watched as India and China seek to stabilise ties following years of tensions along the Line of Actual Control. The proposed Modi-Xi meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for both leaders to review the progress in bilateral relations and discuss key issues, including the border situation, trade and economic cooperation. The two-day BRICS Summit will be hosted by India at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. Leaders of the expanded BRICS grouping are expected to discuss global governance, trade, investment, energy security, supply chains and other major international challenges. The Modi-Xi meeting could emerge as one of the most closely watched diplomatic engagements of the summit and may signal another step towards improving India-China relations.
