World Zoonoses Day: Hyderabad Veterinarians Urge Rabies Vaccination and Public Awareness

Divya Delh : iHyderabad On the occasion of World Zoonoses Day, veterinarians in Hyderabad emphasized the critical role of rabies vaccination and public awareness in preventing zoonotic diseases, which can spread from animals to humans. Experts stressed that rabies remains one of the deadliest yet most preventable zoonotic diseases. They urged pet owners to ensure timely vaccination of dogs and cats while encouraging people to seek immediate medical treatment after any animal bite or scratch. Public health professionals also highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership and proper management of stray animal populations. Veterinarians called for greater collaboration between animal health and public health authorities to strengthen surveillance, improve vaccination coverage, and conduct awareness campaigns on disease prevention. They noted that educating communities about hygiene, animal care, and early reporting of suspected rabies cases is essential to reducing infections. World Zoonoses Day is observed annually on July 6 to raise awareness about diseases transmitted from animals to humans and to promote preventive measures that safeguard both human and animal health.
