Violence Breaks Out During JNU Protest, Rival Unions Accuse Each Other

DIVYA DELHI : Tensions escalated at Jawaharlal Nehru University in the early hours of Monday after a protest march allegedly turned violent, leaving several students injured. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) had organised a “Samta Juloos” towards the East Gate around 1.30 am, demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit and the revocation of a rustication order. Students claimed a scuffle broke out during the march, followed by alleged stone pelting. JNUSU and Left-backed groups accused members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of attacking protesters. ABVP denied the allegations, instead blaming Left-affiliated organisations for provoking the clashes and spreading misinformation. Videos circulating online showed chaotic scenes near the protest site. University authorities did not immediately comment, and the campus remained tense.
