Trump Urges Pardon for Netanyahu Over Corruption Cases

DIVYA DELHI : U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying Herzog should be “ashamed of himself” for not granting one. Trump praised Netanyahu as a “great wartime prime minister” and said the Israeli people should pressure Herzog to act. Netanyahu, Israel’s first sitting prime minister to face criminal charges, denies bribery, fraud, and breach of trust allegations dating to his 2019 indictment. Trump has repeatedly urged Herzog to issue a pardon, but Herzog’s office clarified that the request is still under review by the Ministry of Justice and no decision has been made. The comments came after Netanyahu met Trump in Washington for talks on Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missiles, marking their seventh meeting since Trump took office.
