Trump Unveils $5B Gaza Pledge from Board of Peace Nations

DIVYA DELHI : U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that members of his newly formed Board of Peace have pledged $5 billion for the reconstruction of war-torn Gaza and committed thousands of personnel for an international stabilization force. The pledges will be formally announced when the board meets in Washington on Thursday for its first session. Trump described the body as potentially “the most consequential International Body in History,” though he did not name contributing countries. Indonesia has indicated up to 8,000 troops could be ready by June for a humanitarian and peace mission — the first confirmed commitment to the proposed force. Rebuilding Gaza is expected to cost around $70 billion, according to estimates by the United Nations, World Bank, and European Union. The board’s inaugural meeting will be held at the United States Institute of Peace, a venue currently facing legal challenges after a recent administrative takeover. The initiative comes amid a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with questions remaining over how many nations will ultimately join the effort.
