Divya Delhi : The Telangana government has launched a comprehensive inspection of private universities across the state following directions from the Supreme Court in the Ayesha Jain vs Union of India case. A high-level committee has been constituted to examine the functioning, governance, academic standards, financial practices, and regulatory compliance of these institutions before submitting an affidavit to the apex court. The inspection committee, headed by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, includes officials from the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad, and other academic institutions. The panel will assess nine key aspects, including the objectives behind establishing private universities, faculty qualifications, admission procedures, governance structures, financial transparency, and adherence to University Grants Commission (UGC) norms. The Supreme Court has also sought details on whether feasibility studies were conducted before setting up these universities, whether state benefits such as land allotments were provided, and if institutions have complied with the “no-profit, no-loss” principle. The committee will additionally examine grievance redressal mechanisms and identify any regulatory violations.
