Joseph Vijay is set to take oath as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, as Governor Arlenkar arrived in Chennai on Wednesday amid preparations for the swearing-in ceremony.The Indian National Congress has extended support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the next government. Tamil Nadu Congress leaders met Vijay at the party headquarters, with AICC in-charge Girish Chodankar stating that the alliance is based on mutual respect and a fair share in governance. The Congress also made it clear that its backing is conditional on excluding “communal forces” from the alliance. Meanwhile, tensions escalated in West Bengal following reports of post-poll violence. The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, directed authorities to take immediate action against those involved in violence and vandalism after two deaths were reported. Several party offices were attacked, while incidents of arson and demolition were reported in Kolkata and Murshidabad. The All India Trinamool Congress accused BJP workers of orchestrating targeted attacks. In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned along with his cabinet, paving the way for a new BJP-led government. He indicated that the oath-taking ceremony is likely after May 11, 2026.
