Row Erupts as Gautam Gambhir Accused of Swaying Rohit Sharma Captaincy Decision

DIVYA DELHI : Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has suggested that head coach Gautam Gambhir may have influenced the decision to remove Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain. While the call was officially announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar as part of preparations for the 2027 World Cup, Tiwary questioned whether the decision was made independently. Speaking to Sports Today, Tiwary said Rohit’s removal felt harsh and lacked cricketing logic, especially after leading India to ICC Champions Trophy success. He added that decisions of such magnitude cannot be taken in isolation and likely involved inputs from the team management. Tiwary also expressed disappointment over what he called inconsistent team selections, describing Rohit’s removal as disrespectful to a proven leader with two ICC titles
