Divya Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Parliament’s passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, describing it as an important step towards making India’s examination system more robust, credible and trustworthy. The Bill seeks to strengthen the legal framework against paper leaks and organised examination malpractices. The legislation was passed by the Rajya Sabha after clearing the Lok Sabha, completing the parliamentary process. It provides for stronger action against those involved in unfair means, including examination paper leaks and organised cheating networks. The amended framework also proposes fast-tracked investigations, Special Fast Track Courts, Special Public Prosecutors and time-bound disposal of appeals, along with stricter penal provisions. The government has said these measures are aimed at ensuring quicker justice and creating a stronger deterrent against examination fraud. PM Modi has repeatedly stressed that protecting the future of students is a priority and that those responsible for paper leaks should face stringent action. The latest legislation comes amid concerns over examination integrity and demands for reforms to make competitive and public examinations more transparent and secure. The government expects the strengthened law to restore confidence among students and parents while protecting merit-based selection. The move is part of wider efforts to modernise and improve India’s examination system.
