DIVYA DELHI : A 20-year-old woman from the Kuki-Zo community, who survived sexual violence during the May 2023 ethnic riots in Manipur, has died while awaiting justice. She was allegedly abducted at the age of 18, handed over to an armed group, sexually assaulted, and left injured. Though an FIR was registered in Imphal East, no arrests were made and the case remained pending. The victim suffered prolonged physical complications and severe psychological trauma despite undergoing treatment in multiple hospitals. Civil society groups have termed her death a stark reminder of the violence faced by women during the Manipur unrest and have urged the Union government to ensure accountability and justice.
