Indian Boxers Eye Strong Start at Asian Championships Amid Packed Season

ULAANBAATAR, Mar 29 — Indian boxers will look to make an impressive start at the Asian Boxing Championships beginning Monday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as they gear up for a demanding international season ahead. The tournament marks the first major competition of the year for Indian pugilists, who are aiming not only for podium finishes but also for crucial qualification opportunities. According to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) selection policy, finalists at the Asian Championships will secure direct berths for key multi-sport events later this year. The upcoming calendar is packed with high-profile competitions, including the Commonwealth Games 2026 scheduled in Glasgow during July-August, followed by the Asian Games 2026 in Japan from September to October. The season will conclude with the World Boxing Cup Finals in Uzbekistan, adding further importance to early momentum.  Indian boxers are expected to face stiff competition from traditional powerhouses such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and host nation Mongolia. However, the contingent remains optimistic about delivering strong performances and gaining valuable international exposure. Officials believe that a solid showing at the Asian Championships will not only boost confidence but also streamline selections for upcoming events. With multiple qualification pathways and medals at stake, the tournament presents a significant opportunity for Indian athletes to establish themselves on the continental stage.
