BJP slams oppn’s ‘misleading campaign’ on fuel prices, backs excise duty cut

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly criticised opposition parties for what it called a “misleading campaign” regarding fuel prices, while endorsing the Centre’s recent move to cut excise duties on petrol and diesel. The government had reduced excise duty on petrol to ₹3 per litre and completely exempted diesel from excise duty, a measure aimed at providing relief to consumers amid rising global crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties in the West Asia. Speaking on the issue, BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused the Congress Party of attempting to mislead the public by ignoring the government’s efforts to ease the burden on citizens. He claimed that while the central government has taken proactive steps to reduce fuel costs, Congress-ruled states have implemented measures that effectively increase the financial pressure on consumers. The BJP welcomed the excise duty cuts, stating that the reduction will directly benefit the common people by lowering the base cost of petrol and diesel, while also helping to stabilize inflationary pressures on essential goods and services.Party leaders emphasized that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to shielding citizens from international market fluctuations and ensuring affordable energy supply. They urged opposition parties to refrain from spreading misinformation and to acknowledge the positive impact of the excise duty cuts on household budgets and the broader economy.
