A team of Assam Police, accompanied by Delhi Police officials, reached Congress leader Pawan Khera’s residence in Nizamuddin East on Tuesday, escalating an ongoing political controversy involving Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to sources, Khera was not present at his residence during the visit as he is currently in Hyderabad. The police action comes days after Khera alleged in a press conference that the Chief Minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, possesses three passports and that the family has business interests worth ₹52,000 crore in the United States.Reacting sharply, Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed the allegations as baseless and accused Khera of attempting to evade legal action. He also stated that a defamation case would be filed against the Congress leader. The controversy has triggered a war of words between the BJP and Congress, with both parties trading accusations. Sarma, who is seeking a second term, has repeatedly criticised Khera’s statements, while Congress leaders have questioned the timing and intent of the police action. The development has drawn national attention, raising questions over political conduct and legal accountability. Officials indicated that further legal proceedings may follow as the matter continues to unfold, adding to the intensifying political climate.
