DIVYA DELHI : The Ladakh administration has issued an official notice to a school associated with climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, directing the institution to stop conducting classes. The development has drawn attention to the functioning of the educational institution and the reasons behind the administration’s latest action. According to the reported development, the authorities have asked the school management to suspend academic activities in compliance with the notice. The directive has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the decision and its possible impact on students, teachers and other staff members associated with the institution. The notice, issued by the Tehsildar’s office in Leh on November 1, 2026, was addressed to Gitanjali J. Angmo, co-founder and CEO of HIAL. The administration also referred to a September 22 communication in which Angmo had sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the proposed managing committee of the school. The matter is linked to an ongoing land dispute involving HIAL, which is currently pending before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The dispute concerns the cancellation of 1,076 kanals of land that had been allotted to the institute on a 40-year lease. The administration has directed the institute to maintain the status quo and avoid any action that could affect the ongoing court proceedings. The final decision regarding the school’s activities will depend on the court’s ruling or further official directions. The development has brought renewed attention to the legal dispute between the Ladakh administration and Sonam Wangchuk’s institute.
