DIVYA DELHI : A Delhi-based traders’ body has extended an unusual invitation to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, offering him a 20-minute tour covering 20 markets across the national capital to understand the challenges faced by the trading community. The proposal aims to draw attention to the concerns of shopkeepers and small business owners amid discussions over the city’s commercial environment and business prospects. Under the proposed initiative, Rahul Gandhi would get an opportunity to interact with traders and gain first-hand insight into the day-to-day issues affecting their businesses. The trade body hopes that a brief visit to multiple markets would help highlight the realities faced by shopkeepers, including concerns related to business operations, infrastructure, customer movement and the broader economic climate. Delhi’s markets play a significant role in the city’s economy, supporting thousands of businesses and providing employment to a large number of people. Traders frequently raise concerns about the challenges of maintaining commercial activity, particularly during busy festive periods when traffic congestion, parking difficulties and uncertainty over customer footfall can affect sales. The invitation also reflects the trading community’s efforts to bring local business concerns into the political conversation. By proposing visits to 20 markets within 20 minutes, the association has presented a compact format for engaging with traders across different commercial areas. However, the invitation itself does not establish whether Rahul Gandhi has accepted the proposal or scheduled a visit. Further details regarding the proposed tour and the response from the Congress leader are awaited. The development has highlighted the importance of dialogue between political representatives and traders on issues affecting Delhi’s commercial sector.
