DIVYA DELHI : In a remarkable rescue operation, a Chinese worker was pulled alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal nearly 10 days after devastating flash floods and landslides struck the region. The worker, identified as Luhaitao, was rescued from a 225-metre tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, where he had remained trapped since the disaster on August 26. Rescue teams located and evacuated him before he was airlifted for emergency medical treatment. Footage released by the Nepali Army showed the exhausted survivor covered in mud as medical personnel attended to him. The rescue comes amid a massive search operation for people still missing after the floods, which swept through communities along the Nepal-China border. Hundreds of workers at hydropower projects were believed to have been trapped underground after tunnels were blocked by mud, rocks and debris.
