India Shines in Romania, Secures 1 Gold and 3 Bronze at Linguistics Olympiad.

DIVYA DELHI : India has delivered an impressive performance at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) 2026 held in Bucharest, Romania, winning one gold medal, three bronze medals and an Honourable Mention. The achievement highlights the growing strength of Indian students in language, logic and analytical reasoning. Shrilakshmi Venkatraman won the gold medal for India, while Aarav Anil Rao, Nishanth Shankar Lakshmanan and Advay Misra secured bronze medals. Soham Amit Pednekar received an Honourable Mention for his performance. The International Linguistics Olympiad is a global competition that challenges students to solve complex linguistic puzzles involving unfamiliar languages and patterns. Unlike conventional language examinations, the competition focuses heavily on logical thinking, deduction, pattern recognition and problem-solving skills. The 2026 edition was hosted in Bucharest, Romania, from July 26 to August 2, bringing together students from more than 40 countries. The event featured over 50 participating teams and around 390 contestants. India’s strong medal haul is being seen as another significant achievement for the country’s young academic talent. The success also underlines the importance of linguistics in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing and language technology.
