Nepal Earns Record Revenue from Electricity Exports to India and Bangladesh

Divya Delhi : Nepal has recorded its highest-ever revenue from electricity exports to India and Bangladesh, reflecting the country’s growing hydropower capacity and expanding role in the regional energy market. According to Nepalese authorities, the surge in earnings was driven by increased electricity generation from hydropower projects and higher cross-border power exports through transmission links with India. Nepal also continued supplying electricity to Bangladesh under a trilateral power trade arrangement facilitated through India’s transmission network. Officials said the record revenue marks a significant milestone for Nepal’s energy sector and is expected to strengthen the country’s economy by boosting foreign exchange earnings. The government has reiterated its commitment to expanding hydropower infrastructure and enhancing regional electricity trade with neighbouring countries. Energy experts believe the achievement underscores Nepal’s potential to become a major clean energy exporter in South Asia while contributing to regional energy security and sustainable development.
