Worker organisations claim that financial pressures on manufacturers, declining export orders, and factory closures have contributed to the situation, leaving many employees without stable incomes or social protection. Labour advocates have called for stricter enforcement of labour laws, timely payment of wages, and improved occupational safety standards to protect workers’ rights. They have also urged the government to strengthen oversight of factories and ensure compliance with national and international labour regulations. The garment industry is Bangladesh’s largest export sector and a major source of employment, making the welfare of its workforce crucial to the country’s economy.
