Shalimar Bagh Demolition Drive Clears Around 150 Illegal Structures for Road Widening

In a major anti-encroachment operation, authorities demolished around 150 illegal structures in Delhi’s. the Shalimar Bagh as part of a long-pending road widening project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the area. The drive was carried out under heavy security, with a large deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel to maintain law and order. According to officials, the demolition followed court orders that upheld the government’s acquisition of the land for public infrastructure development. The encroachments were located within the designated right of way for the expansion of Road No. 320, which will connect the Shalimar Bagh Railway Under Bridge with the Outer Ring Road. The administration stated that affected eligible families would receive a one-time financial assistance of ₹3 lakh, while those without alternative accommodation in Delhi would be provided temporary housing for up to 11 months. Officials said the road widening project is expected to significantly improve traffic movement and reduce congestion in northwest Delhi.
