Trump Makes Fresh Claim on India–Pakistan Tensions, Says Millions Could Have Died

DIVYA DELHI : Donald Trump on Wednesday вновь claimed that his intervention prevented a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan during their military standoff.Addressing Congress during his State of the Union speech, Trump said the situation “would have spiralled into a nuclear war” without his involvement. Citing Shehbaz Sharif, he claimed that “35 million people would have died” if the conflict had escalated further. The confrontation followed the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed, prompting India to launch strikes under Operation Sindoor on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Trump has repeatedly said his administration used trade leverage and tariff threats to push both sides toward de-escalation. However, New Delhi has maintained that the May 10 ceasefire understanding resulted from direct talks between India and Pakistan, with no third-party mediation involved.
