Final Electoral Roll Out in Tamil Nadu, 74+ Lakh Names Struck Off

DIVYA DELHI : The final electoral rolls in poll-bound Tamil Nadu were released on Monday by Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, following the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Over 74 lakh names have been removed from the list, reducing the electorate from 6.41 crore (October 27, 2025) to 5.67 crore (February 23, 2026). The final list includes 2.7 crore men, 2.8 crore women, and 7,617 third-gender voters. Sholinganallur recorded the highest number of electors at 5.36 lakh, while Harbour had the lowest at 1.16 lakh. The Election Commission stated that voters dissatisfied with the final list can appeal to the District Election Officer under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and a second appeal may be filed with the CEO under Section 24(b). The final roll will also be shared with political parties. Apart from Tamil Nadu, assembly elections are scheduled this summer in Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry, and Assam.
