DIVYA DELHI : The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major financial support initiative aimed at empowering women ahead of the state Assembly elections. Under the proposed scheme, around 1 crore women are set to receive interest-free credit of up to Rs 1 lakh, providing them with greater access to funds for small businesses, self-employment and livelihood activities. The initiative is expected to strengthen women-led enterprises and encourage greater economic participation across the state. Beneficiaries could use the financial assistance to expand existing businesses, start new ventures or support income-generating activities. The Yogi Adityanath-led government has highlighted women’s economic empowerment as an important part of its development agenda. Officials are expected to work through existing women’s groups, self-help groups and other grassroots networks to identify eligible beneficiaries and facilitate access to credit. The announcement comes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and is likely to become a key part of the government’s outreach to women voters. The scheme is also being projected as a step towards promoting financial independence and self-reliance among women across Uttar Pradesh.
